Today was a fairly quiet day as we all needed a
rest from travelling and relocations - except for Frances who was off at 8:30 for her second surfing lesson with Ladra and Wayan at Canggu
beach. After Frances arrived back tired but happy from her surfing lesson, we all went to Monseur Spoon for lunch , for fresh bread rolls and good Western
coffee.
The place was a hive of activity and appears to do a roaring trade with
the expat community and tourists with its very European fare. All of the bread and most of the cakes are sold by early afternoon. Not cheap though,
and eating in places like this can be a real budget-blower.
The day was fairly hot, so we alternated between time on the internet and plunges in the pool to cool off - and not much else.

Dian Cafe with a rip-off
of the Bintang logo |

Cold Bintang, 4 icy glasses, a glass
of ice and free peanuts
- what else do you need |
In the evening we ventured out for dinner at Echo Beach - not the one featured in the song of the same name, but the one next to Canggu. Like most places there was a range of restaurants to suit most budgets, and we picked on to suit ours - Dian Cafe. Not only did they have a very wide menu, including some traditional Russian dishes, but the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Generally John has some difficulty in finding much variety in vegetarian foods, but in places like Dian Cafe they will often make up a meal with vegetarian ingredients even if not on the menu.

Bi Sampi Panggang Sauce Samur
(tastes like Chinese Beef and Black Bean Sauce) |
As keen as I was to try a traditional Russian dish in Bali, we all settled for Indonesian meals. I chose Bi Sampi Panggang Sauce Samur (charred tenderloin of beef, wok-fried green vegetable, sweet corn fritters and cinnamon soy sauce) which sounded quite interesting and tasty. Unfortunately when it arrived, it looked and tasted very much like Chinese Beef and Black Bean Sauce with capsicum. Not quite what I expected and not terribly interesting. Everyone else had traditional Indonesian meals which were much better.
